The Student Athlete Youth Organization (SAYO) was established in 2006 by a group parents who possess a great love for baseball and a commitment to education. The parents felt strongly that this combination would provide a tremendous foundation for young student athletes. The SAYO Grays were born with a simple mission in mind: dedication to education and athletics can provide the stronghold to success in life. The SAYO Grays are a not for profit 501 3 (c) organization, dedicated to seeing its student athletes excel in the class room and on the baseball field with the end goal being the pursuit of higher education.
The SAYO Grays are named in honor of the Homestead Grays. The Homestead Grays was a group of black young men with a genuine love for the game of baseball. They established themselves in this country during a time when all the odd were stacked against them. With strength and perseverance their team eventually grew to be a Negro National League franchise. They went on to set unprecedented records in baseball.
